Get ready. Second generation Oculus Rifts have begun to ship

Did you order an Oculus Rift development kit? Well, you’re in luck because this week over 10,000 Oculus Rift Development Kit 2s are shipping out. These 10,000 units represent the first shipment of DK2s which are part of a larger 45,000 unit roll out.

Originally announced in March, the DK2 sports a new low persistence OLED display to help with motion blur, a built in latency tester, runs at 1080p, and positional tracking. All of this means that the DK2 will have smoother, clearer, and more vibrant visuals while being able to better track the position of the user's head and provide developers with even more powerful tools in order to ease the development process.

The improvements should also help with motion sickness and visual discomfort that some users experience. Though certainly the best version of the Oculus Rift to date, it is still has a long way to go before its final evolution into the promised consumer level edition which Oculus Rift VR has said may include wireless functionality and improved components.

Palmer Luckey, the original creator of the Oculus Rift, has called virtual reality, "the most exciting technology of the last century." Because why wouldn't you say that about what you've made?

With the addition of the DK2s, Oculus VR has sold over 85,000 units.
